any idea on how to do recordings with the microphone?
is there something similar to btplay but the other way round, i.e. which streams microphone to a file?

You may find that the processor isn't quite powerful enough to compress to MP3 in real time.  Even on desktop machines, LAME is very CPU intensive.

non realtime is ok as well
if you pipe arecord into lame does it have to be realtime?
i'm not really sure how pipe works!

That's a good question - I think that arecord will queue up the data for the pipe and eventually run out of memory.
