Or perhaps just a region specified radar image that could be added to the channel rotation. (One similar to the radar image widget from Konfabulator/Yahoo! Widgets.)
I am waiting for my first Chumby to show up and I would love to have a weather radar widget. I am not a programmer otherwise I would take this task on. You can find links to updated gif files and I would think there would be a way to use this info to create a widget.

Oh, those loops are cool! I haven't had a chance to completely install the development environment yet, but having the images available like that should make it pretty easy to wire them into a widget.
