Topic: Feed C1 directly from PC using USB adapter & crossover cable?

I have been having problems with audio dropouts (as detailed in Widgets section of forum).  I want to do some testing as follows.

In order to isolate problems with Wifi and with router throughput, I want to feed my C1 directly from a laptop which will be used exclusively to buffer incoming audio streams.

Specifically, the laptop will connect to the audio server through my local router.  The laptop will buffer the data, then re-stream it directly to the C1 using a crossover cable and a USB/Ethernet adapter.  Since the laptop will otherwise be essentially idle, it should be able to provide a [nearly] constant data stream to the C1.  If dropouts continue, I'll know the problem is *not* related to Wifi or the router.

Does anybody have any comments or suggestions about this proposed test?  Suggestions for a known-good USB/Ethernet adapter?  Etc.?

Thanks in advance!

There's some information about USB/Ethernet on the wiki here.

In general, you'd get best results with devices using the "asix" chipsets.

I use a NetGear FA120. It works great and is usually inexpensive and somewhat available.
