Topic: Does 38400 serial port give shell login or just kernel messages?

Hiya,
Sorry if this is a dumb question but I can't find the answer;
I have a working serial connection to my chumby via the main PCB header. I get all the kernel messages fine, but I can't get a login prompt.
kernel messages even end with the text

"Please press Enter to activate this console"

yet I no characters are accepted! I can send any amount of enters and not get a login prompt. My RS232 cable and connections are definitely working (I can short tx to rx on the chumby and I get echoed chars)

I suspect I'm being an idiot. How do I get serial port login? Am happy to reflash kernel (have it compiling and reflashing ok right now)

Update: Ok I'm being dumb. I need to alter the cramfs image to change the init code to enable busybox shell.

Update: Scratch that - I'm even dumber. Dry joint on the RX line into the chumby. Duh! :-)

kthxbye
