Topic: USB Powered Chumby

I like the idea of a chumby I can plug into USB for power. Definitely not all, but many chumby users seem to be near their computers while chumby-ing smile

Re: USB Powered Chumby

The chumby can draw up to about 1000mA @ 12VDC - I believe the USB spec maxes out at 500mA @ 5VDC.

There is a rather rare variant of USB called PoweredUSB, which supports other voltages and up to 6A, but I believe it uses a different connector and I've never seen one in the wild.

Re: USB Powered Chumby

Interesting... so external hard drives i've seen sometimes use 2 USB to power/transfer data. Could there be some sort of forked power cord that uses power from 2 USB?

Re: USB Powered Chumby

It's not just the amps - you also need the correct voltage.

Re: USB Powered Chumby

Mmm... I guess voltage could be an issue.
