Here's a suggestion for the programmers.. How about add a flag for widgets to run off a flash drive. Yes I know that you can do it with an XML file. But you have to get the widget there in the first place. For non-programmers this is an issue.

If you could add a flag to a widget saying, copy to USB, run from there if no update is available. That way any user defined widget would be able to run without the network resources being available. Quick and simple solution.

You could also lock this down to a category, so certain widgets couldn't do it. Or add the option during uploading for the widget author to approve this. That way authors of clocks and alarms could, but others like Weather Channel could protect their code.

And clearly state, *function requires external USB drive.
