Topic: Load Image from URL widget - YAY!

Greetings -

I would like to thank whomever posted the Load Image from URL widget.  That was exactly what I was looking for.

I am grabbing radar images from weather.gov.  Looks good.

This is, also, exactly the widget that some other posters have been looking for.  People looking for a "custom webcam" should have no problem with this one.

So, whoever you are.  THANKS!

And the rest of you, if you have not yet, check out the Load Image from URL widget!

Re: Load Image from URL widget - YAY!

WOW! This widget is GREAT! Using it to show latest radar image from weather.com and the satellite photos from weather.gov... very cool!

To give credit where it is due, JVC is the author of this widget as you can see here, http://forum.chumby.com/viewtopic.php?id=1259.

Re: Load Image from URL widget - YAY!

Is there an ideal size of picture?
Can someone post a link that works with this so I can play around?

Thanks All!

Re: Load Image from URL widget - YAY!

I have used images of different resolutions without a problem. I am currently using these two links with the widget and it works great.

Re: Load Image from URL widget - YAY!

Working like a charm... any other ideas to use this for other than Weather?

Re: Load Image from URL widget - YAY!

In addition to two local radar images I am also using it to display a chart of market activity using this URL:

http://chart.bigcharts.com/custom/cnnmo … mp;rand=31

I think I should point out that I am not an investor, I simply want some clue as to what the market is doing...it is a nice peek into what is going on.

Re: Load Image from URL widget - YAY!

This is a bit geeky, but if you are into weather, then this is for you -

Graphs of temperature, barometer, wind, rain:

Find a weather station in your area (change this to your zip), for example:

http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/map-near.cgi?zip=49424

Select a nearby WX station, for example:

http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/wxpage.cgi?KC8LCP-12

Copy the image location, such as:

http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/temp.cgi?c … ts=english

http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/temp.cgi?call=KC8LCP-12&last=120&xsize=300&ysize=200&units=english

Re: Load Image from URL widget - YAY!

Wow.. not only did that work perfectly, I now know quite a bit more about APRS Data.. Amazing!

I grabbed 6 images, simple and appealing, like the one above.

I myself found a local new web page and copied a link to their 7 Day forecast jpeg. Named WEB_7Day_Forecast.jpg
This works like a charm as well.

Ahh heres another one....

Re: Load Image from URL widget - YAY!

Thanks for the APRS link! I host an APRS weather station myself and was just thinking about how to get this data!
