Topic: CMOS Sensor Input pins

From the schematic it doesn't look like the CSI pins are brought out to a header. Attaching a camera to chumby would be fun, it doesn't need to ship with it and could be an added cost extra. Poking around in digikey and arrow I found several VGA resolution modules for $10 in single quantity. Some of the sensors are on small PCBs that could plug directly into the mainboard. I don't need a specific sensor, any one that was designed to plug in would work.

Im sure we discussed a usb webcam a while back.

need upload space for the forums or a chumby blog? right here then

Re: CMOS Sensor Input pins

I am aware of USB webcams. Even the cheap ones are over $50. Plus there is the issue of making more USB ports available which probably requires a hub.  Adding a USB webcam to Chumby isn't going to end up looking very pretty.

On the other hand, Chumby could design for a specific CMOS sensor module and not ship it. The CSI pins could be brought to a header that the camera would be plugged into. Everything would be aligned so that a small hole could be drilled (or popped out) in the case to expose the lense. The CMOS sensor module would be an add-on like the daughter card.  Since everyone is using the same sensor only one device driver needs to be written.

Look at this picture, why is the girl on a cell phone?

If Chumby had a camera it could be a videophone.

Too bad ... that would have made it the perfect robotic platform ...
