Topic: Way to turn down night mode brightness?
The night-mode screen is a little too bright for my tastes. Is there a way to dim it further?
Was this an expected problem that some people would like there dimmed further?

Not in software - the dim level is done in hardware.
orly? that sucks, I'm getting used to it, but still. Hmm.. Ok then, thanks.
Is there any way to change the colours used in the "night mode" clock widget? If they can be made darker, perhaps the display will become slightly darker, too?
The color of the Night Mode is black (RGB 0/0/0). It can't be any blacker.
How much more black could it be? The answer is None. None more black.
Chumby Indus. might experiment with dull red for the night display, for the digits in particular. It wouldn't be darker, but it might be less intrusive or bothersome.
Hahaha!
Digitally, you have a point. If this were print, I might argue.
Even so, it's worth taking a look at figure 5 on page 5 of this PDF:

this refers to video monitor setup, which is an entirely different animal. The darkest possible black you see on figure 5 is the equivalent to RGB 0,0,0.
Maybe one day, full color OLED touch-screens will be cheap enough for the chumby (well, we can dream at least!).

What about the backlight... can it be set to a lower intensity?
Since it's done in hardware, can we be offered more pre-configured options.
I.E. instead of high/low (current) we get high/medium/low/verylow?
PS. I, too, find the backlight a bit too bright at night...
Hardware solutions may not necessarily require opening up the chumby
Protective film for the touchscreen can sometimes dim it down as quite a few types have a slight tint... Double win. The tint isn't very noticeable when the chumby is on full brightness...
yes. a line of screen-cling touch-screen protectors that are tinted for night time use. might even make the colors seem more clear in day mode if done right. Chumby shades!
