Topic: Widget Request: Seti@Home or Folding@Home

It would be awesome if there was a widget that would run Seti@Home or Folding@Home. Just an idea. Carry on smile

Unfortunately, since the ARM processor lacks floating point math hardware, it's a *very* poor platform for that particular application.

Bummer. That would have been rad. I still love my Chumby.

Re: Widget Request: Seti@Home or Folding@Home

I hear that PS3's are great for this type of thing.  Couldn't imagine subjecting my little Chumby to that kind of workload yikes

Re: Widget Request: Seti@Home or Folding@Home

Yeah, the PS3 has a *very* powerful processor - a 3.2 GHz Cell processor that can theoretically reach 6.4 GFLOPS, and that's not counting the GPU.

You'd be lucky to get even 1 MFLOP out of the chumby's processor, which needs to do floating point math in software - so it could take 6,000 chumbys to match the floating point performance of a single PS3.

Re: Widget Request: Seti@Home or Folding@Home

I hear that the PS3 broke a Guiness world's record for 'distributed computing' (1/4 of a petaflop - http://pstruth.wordpress.com/2007/10/31 … -records/)

Shame they have no games worthy of the hardware yet ...
