Topic: SSH & The Web server

I have enabled SSH on my chumby, and am using putty on Windows XP sp2 to try and connect to it, without luck. Putty just doesn't do anything, no messages, no nothing. When I tap SSH on my chumby, I'm getting the chumby logo, which winks, then dissapears... is this right?

Also, The built in web server doesn't appear to be working, it just times out whenever I try to connect. The widgets are working fine though, so its definetly connecting to the network and everything.

Anybody got any thoughts?

Re: SSH & The Web server

The wink+disappear is correct.. make sure you have Putty's connection type configured as SSH on port 22.

Can you ping the Chumby's IP address from your computer?

If you are running a Linksys router, be sure to disable "AP Isolation" which prevents wireless clients from communicating with each other. Just in case, make suer you disable any firewalls on your computer while testing.

Re: SSH & The Web server

There is an option on PUTTY at the bottom of the connect screen.  The default is to close after the session is closed.  You can change this to 'Never' and that might give you a better error screen because then PUTTY will stay open with any error messages.

Re: SSH & The Web server

Iv seen this problem... im using the beta control panel.. try rebooting the chumby and re-enabling the SSHD....

I periodically have the same problem where the SSHD acts as if nobodys home
In fact, i disabled SSHD from autostarting from the chumby thinking it mighta been due to this but it didnt help.. it still is intermittent...

Re: SSH & The Web server

No, I can't ping it either which is mucho strange. Have restarted numerous times, and have also restarted routers but still no luck.

Do you think it might be worth trying it with the beta control panel? Has anyone experienced any major bugs with it or anything?

Re: SSH & The Web server

velk.. have you tried http'ing into your chumby....?
http://<chumbyiphere>
in my case its 192.168.10.100

the http server is NOT the same as the SSH server but we can see if its on the network...

Re: SSH & The Web server

Yeah that's what I was saying, the web server doesn't appear to be working either... and I take it that this is enabled by default? I can't even ping it, which is so weird. It's like it doesn't exist on the network.

*My apologies for the blond moment... sounds like your router might be blocking your connection*

No worries, it happens to the best of us.

I don't really understand how or why my router would be blocking it, but I have come up with another problem (well, more of an oddity). So far i've been connecting via a wireless router, which is connected to another wireless router, which is connected to my cable modem. Now this works fine, accepting wireless clients on both routers, and also wired connections on both from PC's, my PDA, etc etc. So far, my chumby has been connecting to one of the wireless routers, as the other one simply doesn't show up. The router is about 4 metres from the chumby, so the signal strength must be ok. I've tried entering it manually giving the SSID name and IP, etc but still no luck.

Just for testing, i've disabled all firewalls, etc but still nothing.

Re: SSH & The Web server

Actully i know why your router might block it....
Som routers segment their wlreless clients from their wired clients for securty reasons .. I know my Sofaware Za100 does this.... on this router, to fix this, you need to set the router into bridge mode where the wired and wireless clients co-exist on the same network, instead of the segmenting it does automatically...
