Topic: Play Music from network share?

I'm really taken with the idea of the Chumby and like the idea of the iPod compatibility, but I have my music library on a NAS which is shared over the network via SMB. Is there a way yet that the Chumby could connect to this and stream the Music across the network? Or is that kind of network connectivity not possible?

Yeah, I was kinda looking for a way to use it to control iTUNES remotely

In iTunes 7, Apple introduced an authentication mechanism in the DAAP protocol that prevents non-Apple clients from using network sharing.

To my knowledge, that mechanism has not yet been reverse engineered.

Re: Play Music from network share?

But can't you use the iTunes server built into iTunes and just stream to a client app?

Re: Play Music from network share?

No - iTunes 7 will not stream to non-Apple-licensed clients.

The best way to do it currently is to install SlimServer, which will parse through the iTunes database and will serve the music.

Re: Play Music from network share?

What about using Apple Airtunes as a source instead of a USB?

I explain how to mount an SMB share here:

Re: Play Music from network share?

I use Connect 360 from Nullriver to allow the XBOX 360 to see and stream all my media (audio, video, images) that's on my Mac.  I wonder if that would share it properly with the Chumby?  At least to see and control it, even if streaming didn't work.
