Re: Getting ALL radio stations on Chumby

Anyone got a update about that:

I found this:

WMA Encoder and Decoder

Supports: ARM™ (ARM9E™, ARM11™) platforms (Chumby has ARM9?)

Maybe this could be implemented on a Chumby?

I also would dearly like to play mms streams on Chumby...

Fortunately there's a BBC WS mirror on shoutcast

And how about  FFMpeg: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ffmpeg

Since it has also the source code, how to compile it in ARM linux?

BTW: Anyone could tell me how to start my favorite radio station after login?

Salute!

Re: Getting ALL radio stations on Chumby

This thread has already been mentioned before... Almost all WMA decoding under linux is NOT LEGAL without a license from Microsoft, and the restrictions to obtain said-license means the player app would have to be closed source...to the point that you would probably NOT be able to use the WMA player for your own chumby apps, as well ad the native player needing to support DRM....

We aren't going down that train again..

FFMPeg is NOT a legal app in the US
Neither is LAME or any other linux workaround.. if it decodes WMA it technically needs a license from MS... otherwise Chumby Inc. can and will be sued...

And the restrictions on this license go against Chumby's corporate philosophy.. Do you want to lock the chumby up worse than an Ipod/Iphone app.. with them telling you what apps you can and cannot write?
