Re: Chumby featured on Cnet.com frontpage

We're somewhat amused that its versatility is listed as a "con", especially given the tons of threads on this forum asking us to make it do even *more* stuff.

Re: Chumby featured on Cnet.com frontpage

I can see his point.. For my users, versatility is not a good thing. The more options they have the more they can screw up.. And I always have to fix it smile

But on the other hand.. This reviewer, I think only works with MP3's and Video stuff. So they they have a criteria list that they check off to do a review. And the Chumby does not fit his "adorable" round butt into their square checklist.. LOL So I think they are kinda clueless on what to do with it.

I find the user replies to those stories more interesting than the stories themselves.

Re: Chumby featured on Cnet.com frontpage

It is unfortunate that it seems like most of these reviewers don't get it. It certainly reflects on the 2.5 star and tentative thumbs up ratings.
I do agree with some of the points made. The sheer number of widgets can become confusing.
No the chumby is not a perfect device. But it is the only device which does what it does. It can only get better. The trouble with reviewers is they don't have the time and energy to truly personalize the Chumby or they don't care. The best thing about it is it's ultimate flexibility. The chumby can be made to be exactly what you want it to be by the end user.
Too bad they did not focus their articles on the adaptability of the Chumby as much as they did their network connection issues.
I find it hard to believe that a tech writer couldn't get his chumby connected.
I was able to without even opening the manual. And I am using apple airport extreme base stations for my wireless setup.
One thing you cant remove from the equation is human error.

Re: Chumby featured on Cnet.com frontpage

Well, from the reviews, it is obvious this is being looked at as an alarm clock+. Same thing from a lot of the comments on the forum from people who have yet to get one.

Re: Chumby featured on Cnet.com frontpage

IMHO it is a mistake to focus the marketing of the Chumby as a alarm clock.
This function is secondary to even the internet radio function IMHO.
If the radio function was the focus then they would stop complaining about the price.

Re: Chumby featured on Cnet.com frontpage

Hey, PC World did a little piece on the Chumby. Their article seems to be a bit more favorable than the others linked here, although that is probably a result of the nature of the publication.

Speaking of CNET, Molly Wood gave a more glowing mini-review of sorts during a recent CNET Buzz podcast.  She sounded like she was in love with the thing smile
