I read this story on digg about a car computer mesh network meant to share info on the road conditions and etc but they arn't planning on it coming out until 2012.. and it would still be $500 some how.. so I got to thinking.

What if someone was to make a "car" widgit.
A widgit that will create a mesh network with any of the other chumbies out there and share info.
The chumby, being a small, low power, hackable,expandable linux device with a touchscreen would be perfect to put into a car.

A usb addon that uses the same cheap motion sensors used in wiimotes could be used to detect vehicle crashes and wipeouts, and then it could send that data as a warning to others around the accident. I'm also thinking someone could figure out a way to connect the chumby to the hazard lights on the car so when they are on, it send a warning, etc.

I think it would be a great idea and I would install one in my car if such a thing existed. You guys could also try to get some kind of sponsorship from some of the major auto companies.
