Topic: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

We're looking for stations to add to Radio Free Chumby.

In general, we're looking for cool stations that aren't typically available from other aggregators or directories such as SHOUTcast.

They must be MP3 or Ogg streams (sorry, no WMA, RealAudio, etc) - please check they play well with btplay before submitting.   It's OK if they require the --output=alsa:plug:dmixer switch.

Of course, we're not guaranteeing we'll add them, but we'll certainly consider them.

Please add the URLs to PLS, ASX, or M3U, or direct links to the streams themselves in this thread.

I think all of the SomaFM stations are already in the SHOUTcast directory.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

I would love if you guys could get this stream in. I just dont know if its wma, mp3, or even know the direct address. They mainly play alternative rock, late night is when they play the good stuff, and they have a Great morning show. Heres the link I have. It just opens a browser with media player.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

I mentioned this on another thread: WERS, the college radio station I listen to on the weekend:

http://www.wers.org/wers.asx
http://www.wers.org/wers.pls

I have thought about a 'what's playing now' widget for them, since that is published on their web pages.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

I would love to see 97.3 KBCO (http://www.kbco.com) Studio C Channel added to Radio Free Chumby.

Its direct stream access URL is: http://a563.l2987934562.c29879.g.lm.aka … ctor:34562

They describe themselves as World Class Rock and the above feed won the National Association of Broadcasters First Ever Digital Broadcasting Award.  The feed above is also available on HD Radio in the Denver area.

I would also like to see their normal broadcast feed added to RFC too, but I think it needs to be authenticated prior to playing and may not work.

I would also suggest that RFC use KBCO's Holiday Channel as well.  Great stuff! http://cluster.sbr.liquidcompass.cc/Holiday_KBCO

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

Re: somafm.  ALL the good ones except for Xmas in Frisco.  There are a couple other minor channels that aren't in the shoutcast top 100, but the only one I miss is the Xmas station.

I do like the idea of radio free chumby - you guys could swap out stations from time to time, maybe make the list a little larger, too - 25 stations?

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

Could it be possible to have us winnow our music lists to a manageable size?  This is more of a brainstorm then a full-fledged idea. Since we can select and configure widgets via the website, can we configure our own personal SHOUTCast list or Radio Free Chumby list via the website in a future release?

Just a thought....

The list scrolls - just touch and drag up or down.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

91.3 WYEP Pittsburgh is fantastic. They play "hipster" music (solo efforts from popular bands, songs used on iPod commercials, etc.), for lack for a better word, and they hardly ever play the same thing twice. They've got their playlists on their site here (http://www.wyep.org/music%5Fprograms/pl … chives.asp).

They've got streams in two formats:
http://azulweb.streamguys.com/wyep.asx
http://wyep.streamguys.net/listen.pls

EDIT: crap, neither one seems to work in btplay, even with the alsa output switch. Anything else to try, or will these just not work?

Here's the output:

chumby:~# btplay --output=alsa:plug:dmixer http://wyep.streamguys.net/listen.pls &
chumby:~# btplay v1.08
Source/Core/BltStream.c(861): [bluetune.core.stream] 1197157188:638 INFO: Stream::SetInput = name=http://wyep.streamguys.net/listen.pls
Source/Plugins/Inputs/Network/BltHttpNetworkStream.cpp(94): [bluetune.plugins.inputs.network.http] 1197157189:55 INFO: HttpInputStream::GetMediaType - Content-Type = audio/x-scpls
BtPlay:: final result = -40400
BtPlay::main - clean exit

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

Is it possible to add XM radio to Chumby?

-HuckFinn

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

My suggestion is to add wnyc (npr) both am and fm.
When one has music the other has a great npr show.

As far as I can tell the chumby still has no decent npr channels.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

A decent NPR out of Boston is WGBH; could this be added, please?

What's wrong with KCRW in Radio Free Chumby (number 6)?

btplay wants the link to the actual mp3 stream, not the PLS.

Download the PLS, then look inside.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

I will kcrw again. I thought I had tried it and it only had music or something.
I am looking for all the great information that npr has.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

WDUQ, Jazz FM from Pittsburgh (some NPR/PRI content as well): presently, http://66.225.205.75:80/

Canadian Broadcasting Company Radio 1(OGG): http://vorbis.nm.cbc.ca:80/cbcr1-toronto.ogg
Canadian Broadcasting Company Radio 2(OGG): http://vorbis.nm.cbc.ca:80/cbcr2-toronto.ogg

CBC doesn't have an mp3 stream, just a WMP stream, but hopefully OGG is ok.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

Please add support for Orb.com.

Then I can stream internet radio, internet tv, music, flash videos, photos and RSS feeds from my Orb client on my computer. The client can stream in a bunch of different formats (including flash video).

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

WBUR has been mentioned in other posts, and it is my wakeup station (NPR).  Since it was in SHOUTcast but has rolled away, it would be great if it were constantly available to us Chumby users:

http://www.wbur.org/listen/feed/shoutcast.pls

Could this be added to the Radio Free Chumby list?

Thanks!
