It's great to be able to see my Twitter friends' updates; of course, now I would like to update my own Twitter status via my Chumby.

You can do this with Tweeter (in labs now). If you authenticate, the widget will start with you and your friends timelines. If you click on a status, you will be shown that specific users timeline.
