Topic: Ver 2.6.54

Looks great and working better than the earlier beta! I like that the music service interfaces look and act in a similar manner. Most of my Streams now launch for me where none of the mono ones did before.

I AM still getting repetitive clicking on my local NPR station, which is streaming at 24 via Shoutcast or through MyStream. Noticing it on other 24 streams also.

Re: Ver 2.6.54

Since your talking about the "My Streams" I have been trying to get this to work http://provisioning.streatheworld.com/p … DIALUP.pls

All I get is a couple of sounds and that is it. I tried it on my computer and it works..

Re: Ver 2.6.54

It's great that you've been able to continue to roll out new builds, with great enhancements and fixes.

I'll second the "thanks!" for the consistency in the music lists...

Also, the up an down arrows in the scroll bar on the right work perfectly now: they are "lit" only when there's more list in the *that* direction.

More of the streams I want to add to My Streams are working - thanks for that. I've noticed that if I input an entirely invalid stream URL, I get no error message or warning. It'd be nice to have some sort of status or error messages.

Some other nits:

I expected to be able to click and drag in the vertical space between the arrows in the standard scroll bar, and can't

I can no longer click on an item in the standard list and drag the list up and down. I'd like to have that back as long as the list still scrolls reasonably quickly.

On the SHOUTcast list, sometimes the text is too wide to read all of it. Not good.

Also, regarding SHOUTcast. It's cool that I can search and find streams that don't appear in the "popular stations" list, but where can I find out what all's really available?

Re: Ver 2.6.54

Thanks from me also for the new release -- like the artwork.

All in all, you're giving me what I expected in the chumby and more when I first heard about it.

Re: Ver 2.6.54

In My Streams, I suggest there be a different message than "stopped" when it is trying to connect. You tend to click on Play over and over thinking you missed the button! Perhaps "attempting connect."

Re: Ver 2.6.54

So far so good.
I would like to actually see the files (songs) listed in the MY FILES area. If I rip a disk direct to a usb key with no DRM using audio grabber it should show up on the chumby..and it doesn't.
Call me crazy but my chumby plays FLAC files. Strange thing is that I have a key with at least 60 song files on it. the chumby sees 30 and will only play the flac files so far. this is with only one key. I figure I need to try another with only music files on it. Can each artist have it's own directory? Do the files need to be in the top directory?
I have mixed results with Ipods too. I am sure it has to do with the drm thing. Some are and some are DRM'd. PITA.

I used to have the clicking wireless play and it was suggested that my wireless connection was not good enough. I am able to stream audio using my PSP and computer using the same connection in the same space. None the less I moved the antenna and directed it towards the location the chumby lives in and I must admit a great improvement in audio and the chumby generally seems to work better. Maybe it has a small buffer?

Anyway Please keep up the good work. the UI is improving. I wish you would look at the way the PSP does streaming audio. One of the cool features it's interface has is a quality of stream feature. this is a cool thing it will also lt a chumby user know if it is the signal or the chumby which is responsible for the choppy audio.
being able to see what is playing is a really important thing. If there is streaming audio and the chumby is surfing away I would love to see a subtitle showing the current song or radio show. this could flash on change of song or widget...
I would love to see this...MTV style. I hope the chumby can do stuff like this.

Yep, I checked the spelling on the Chumby and it was right. Does it work for you?

Re: Ver 2.6.54

It looks like that PLS file is not correctly formatted - I'd have to make some changes to the Control Panel to handle it.

Re: Ver 2.6.54

I also have tried several streams from "streamtheworld" and have not had luck entering the PLS link. What did work for me was opening the link on my laptop with WinAmp and then once the stream was playing, looked at the file properties. I then added this link as an MP3 stream. It worked, but did not sound very good - choppy audio. For example...

http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/ … DIALUP.pls does not work on my Chumby, but in WinAmp it shows the following info under "View File Info" ...

http://208.80.52.60:80/WBBMAMDIALUPCMP3 which does work on the Chumby as an MP3 stream, but is a little choppy.

Also I have found this website, http://www.thestreamcenter.com/pda/ is a good listing of radio station audio links. The PDA formated version of the webpage makes it much easier to see which streams are mp3 vs WMA. Unfortuneately most of them are WMA, but still a good resource.

Re: Ver 2.6.54

Thanks for the updates. The UI is much better and easier to navigate.
My observations:
* The WHYY stream is working in "My streams" now. Howver, some of my older stations have stopped working
* WPRB stops after a couple of minutes. This used to be ok
* Recognizes the files in my flash drive but is not playing. Again, this drive used to work before
It will be great if we can play URL playlists from the flash drive. So we can play online streams from the drive itself

Re: Ver 2.6.54

I'm still having trouble getting my M3Us to play. I have verified that the server is returning a response for the m3u, but nothing plays. If I do a wget on the m3u and play a stream from it with btplay, everything works fine. I can email the playlist file again, or I can send the URL that generates it if it'll help.

I checked out the website you said. I got KCBS AM as a mp3 stream: http://208.80.52.98:80/KCBSAMDIALUPPCMP3
It doesn't work. Does work for anyone? I'm thinking it might be becuase it is a mono feed.

Re: Ver 2.6.54

I have not tried it on my chumby, but you have a typo above. Only one P in dialup at the end.

http://208.80.52.98:80/KCBSAMDIALUPCMP3

I also see in WinAmp a backup server located at

http://208.80.52.98:3690/KCBSAMDIALUPCMP3, maybe this one will work better.

Thanks for your help! The backup server worked! It is a little choppy but not that bad (Better then my radio),I think it is due to the mono problem.

I found one thing that might be a bug, when the stream doesn't work it will say in your "My Streams" that it has stopped trying to play the stream but it keeps trying to connect to the stream that you have entered. You have to back out to the "Music" panel and there you see that you stream that you entered is still trying to play.

Re: Ver 2.6.54

On the subject of media types, some one above mentioned being able to playback .FLAC format.. which is wonderful (haven't tried it yet to confirm), but would it be possible to add support for additional Open media formats, like .wav and .aiff

Question for you, does KFRC http://208.80.52.56:80/KFRCFMDIALUPCMP3 have a backup server that you find in WinAmp?

Thanks

Re: Ver 2.6.54

OK, so I've taken a look at a lot of the problematic M3U and PLS links that have been posted, and modified the code to accommodate them - it should be fixed in the next release.

The basic issue is that some of these files are poorly formatted, and some use inconsistent line endings.  I think I've got them normalizing properly now.

Thanks for posting these.

Re: Ver 2.6.54

KCUF is back, but I'm streaming MP3 Pro, and I'm hearing the clicks again on my Chumby:

http://sc2.spacialnet.com:12902/listen.pls

Should I be switching to old-fashioned MP3 and specifiy 44.1 on my 96K stream?

Thanks.

Oops, I didn't see Duane's message "OK, so I've taken a look at a lot of the problematic M3U and PLS links that have been posted, and modified the code to accommodate them - it should be fixed in the next release." but I don't wanna wait and find out that the next version won't fix my station's problem, and that I should have...

Re: Ver 2.6.54

The "clicking" is due to rate conversion - that will require a firmware update to improve the efficiency of the audio libraries.  The Control Panel can't fix that.

So, Duane...  Love my Chumby (Gumby), but this seems to be a common complaint, so... when might there be a firmware update that might fix the clicks?

Re: Ver 2.6.54

The fix is currently in the QA pipeline - not sure yet what the schedule is for the next firmware release.  We tend to accumulate a lot of fixes for a release since doing a firmware update is a pretty convoluted process - we wouldn't do one for just this issue.

Re: Ver 2.6.54

About when do you think we can expect a firmware upgrade?
Will this be the "final" code before the Chumby becomes "public"?
When can we expect the chumby to go wide?
Any sort of time line would be appriciated. Even somthing as brod as "We are aiming  for a May relese" would be helpful.
Thanks

Re: Ver 2.6.54

I am trying to get some Australian radio stations to stream through My Streams but not having a lot of joy.

Any reason why this stream wouldn't be working?  http://abc.net.au/streaming/triplej/triplej.m3u

Or this one? http://streamhq.adam.com.au:8000/FreshFM.m3u
