Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

It's clear that chumby users want NPR content but that not everyone wants a station from any one market.  (Yes Duane, there really is a difference between NPR stations).  I for example, would like to see WAMU (http://www.live365.com/play/wamu3), which comes out of Washington, D.C., because they offer different in-house program options and a schedule that's on east coast time, unlike KCRW.  However, I know that this is not everyone's first choice.  I hope that the final control panel allows some modification of Radio Free Chumby through the website.  I'm pretty happy for now to go through slimserver or ssd but it seems counterintuitive for chumby to not offer the maximum choice on the user end.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

Well, it seems to me that it has less to do with NPR specifically than it does with people wanting to listen to their favorite stations, no matter what they play or where they get their content.

In any case, I'm adding the ability to add your own stations to a list - basically your own RFC.

This may take a little while, so patience please smile

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

This update supports Quicktime files, right? The support rep I spoke to said this update basically makes the Chumby a SlimDevice. If so, please could http://www.bbc.co.uk/england/realmedia/ … unties.ram be added, if not then please leave me to cry tongue. It is the local radio from my hometown, back in the UK smile.

This appears to be a RealAudio file, which requires another plugin to play on your Mac. The chumby does not support this audio format. Sorry. If have an alternative mpeg stream -- maybe.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

thanks for adding Tspigot.net

another great radio station to add to Radio Free Chumby is KEXP in Seattle, WA.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

Duane,

can you change the feed for T Spigot from dank.four2oh.net:8000 to use tspigot.net:8000

the tspigot.net stream is more stable and has a larger bandwidth available to them.

thanks!

lovin' Radio Free Chumby interface!!

Hi Duane,

I posted this comment on the other beta feedback thread but it would be great if you could have your own RFC feed that was also a podcast feed (e.g. not just streaming) that way you could use something like yahoo pipes to mash up a custom podcast feed for alarms, etc.

EDIT: crap, neither one seems to work in btplay, even with the alsa output switch. Anything else to try, or will these just not work?

btplay wants the link to the actual mp3 stream, not the PLS.

Download the PLS, then look inside.

Ah, yeah - knew that - just didn't think to do it for some reason. Anyway, I got the real stream URL: http://wyep.streamguys.net:80/

It requires the "Chipmunk" fix:
btplay --output=alsa:plug:dmixer http://wyep.streamguys.net:80/ &

Thanks.

As odd as this might sound for an adult, but is there a way to add Radio Disney...my kids love to play with Chumby and love Radio Disney, it would be great if they could do both at the same time!!!

Thanks.

You are a brave soul - my chumby! my chumby! my chumby!

I got one for my wife as an early Christmas present (which she loves btw, thank chumbians!) but the kids are gonna have to get their own!

Granted these kids are old enough to work - I'm sure yours are quite a bit younger.

I assume yours are not babies - I think they said somewhere here that chumby isn't drool proof.

Which reminds me - anyone up for a water proof rain jacket for the little guy(?) - I bet there are people here that will want to take him poolside.  (merchandising)

Sorry, that appears to be a Windows Media stream.

Sorry, Radio Disney seems to require Microsoft Windows with Internet Explorer - it won't even work on Macintosh.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

Thanks for the quick answer Duane.  Guess my kids will have to stick with the Ipod for now. smile

I haven't given up on this one - I notice that iTunes/Radio includes Radio Disney in its catalog, which would seem to imply that there's another stream format available somewhere - however, I can't seem to get it to play in iTunes.

Radio Disney also operates a number of small network of regional stations - I'm trying to find one that may be running a stream independently.

This is going to be great when it's added.  But it still seems to me that two or three NPR stations from the major markets (NY, SanFran, etc) on the preloaded Radio Free Chumby would be an obvious customer satisfier.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

I had provided the urls for WHYY(Philly) and WNYC(NY). No luck adding them

That would be ideal. I am the music director for Boot Liquor, part of SomaFM, and would love to point people to the Chumby as a stream listening device.

But, currently, scrolling down through the massive Shoutcast display is extermely painful at best.

I think all of the SomaFM stations are already in the SHOUTcast directory.

Just about every Internet station in existence is in Shoutcast already, including KCRW and Radio Paradise (which were already added).

The SHOUTcast UI in 2.6.49 is being entirely restructured for the next beta.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

I've been searching for a BBC World Service MP3 feed to add a classy news channel to Radio Free Chumby. Think I found one via Vermont Public Radio...    http://vpr.net/vpr_files/stream_playlis … bc_mp3.pls

Info at http://vpr.net/listen/stream/

Whatcha think?
