Re: Sony Dash HID-C10 Original Firmware, Themes, and File Downloads

I would like to apply one of these themes to a running "unbricked" / "blocked Sony IP range" happy DASH. But I
don't know how to apply it. Can someone give me instructions. I only know Windows unfortunately!

Don't, it's a waste of time, because they won't work with the chumdash.

Thanks for the quick reply. I love the term "chumdash" smile

Re: Sony Dash HID-C10 Original Firmware, Themes, and File Downloads

I would like to examine these theme files. Are they available from another source? (Preferably one that doesn't require a valid credit card number.)

Re: Sony Dash HID-C10 Original Firmware, Themes, and File Downloads

Some of them *might* work.

If you put them on a dongle, rename them as "theme.swf" and reboot, the CP should try to use them.  However, many of these rely on feeds that are long, long gone.

Re: Sony Dash HID-C10 Original Firmware, Themes, and File Downloads

I don't think these files are correct.  Or at least so far what I've checked hasn't matched the JPG in the zip files.

I'm looking for appview or applauncher.  Your zipfile for appview appears to be "bento" and "applauncher" appears to be fullappview.

I clicked on the big flashing DOWNLOAD NOW button and was asked to register for an account and to verify with a credit card.

Don't click on the big one above.  Click on the smaller one below.  The big one is click bait.

You were correct. Here is the right appview theme..

And here is the applauncher theme

"appview" is the one I was looking for and is what I was running prior to the Sony Shenanigans.  I'll test it when I get to the office tomorrow (that's where my Dash lives).

I am in the process of verifying each theme and updating the original post with corrections. I apologize for the confusion.

Edit: All files have been verified on my Dash. Thanks.

If we do this, and then we yank the dongle, it won't work anymore, correct?

(Duane or someone will correct me if I'm wrong I'm sure).

That is not correct.  You are actually copying the file to the "psp" directory on the DASH itself overwriting whatever your active theme currently is.    It will survive a reboot.  It will survive no thumb drive being attached.  The only reason to leave it on the thumb drive would be to easily switch back if you ever bring up the "lcars" theme because it's star trek night or something.  You'll need to ssh in and copy it back over if you do.

Depends on when you yank it - once the theme is loaded in the CP, then it doesn't need access to the file again until reboot.

Upon startup, the CP looks for the themes in the following places in the following order, and uses the first one it finds:

/tmp/theme.swf
/mnt/usb/theme.swf
/psp/theme.swf
/usr/widgets/theme.swf

Under normal operation the theme as configured through the UI in the CP ends up at /psp/theme.swf

During theme development, I typically scp the theme.swf I'm testing to /tmp and restart the Control Panel.  When I want to try using one across reboots, I put it on /mnt/usb.  When I want to try using it across reboots without a dongle, I put in in /psp.

On chumby devices, /tmp is RAM so it goes away on reboot.  If you put anything on /mnt/usb or /psp and intend to reboot, make sure you issue a "sync" command to flush the caches to the storage.  Same goes if you intend to remove the USB device while the device is powered up.

Thanks for the files. Sorry for troubling you.

I added Sony control panels in the first post.. Not sure how useful they are, but provided for development purposes.
