Topic: Paging Duane: Chumby server(s)

Are the chumby servers at the office in San Diego?

Or somewhere else?

How many servers is it and how much traffic is involved?

Re: Paging Duane: Chumby server(s)

chumby servers have long since been sold off/eliminated.
they run entire off virtual infrastructure from amazon. just do a traceroute and you will see everything is being served off amazon's cloud.
they use gmail for mail as well. see mail.chumby.com

Re: Paging Duane: Chumby server(s)

Oh.  Big bucks then.

The question remains, how much is involved?
Naturally I am looking to see what would be involved to keep it running afterward.
After someone stops paying the bill, that is.

It's probably $2,000 a month on Amazon.
Or I imagine it is something like that.

Clearly if it takes one linux box with 128k of bandwidth the magnitude of the project is different than if it would take 15 servers using 300gb/day.

Re: Paging Duane: Chumby server(s)

VERY big bux. i wouldnt be surprised if they were doing a coupla TB a month @ $20-30K burn rate or something similar. they probably have at least 20-30 spooled up servers.

Re: Paging Duane: Chumby server(s)

The traffic would be that high?

Maybe someone who had access to the server stats will post them.

I can't see any way anyone would be able to pay that much to run chumby servers.
Not me for sure!

But lets see about facts here.  Maybe Duane has them.

Re: Paging Duane: Chumby server(s)

The current infrastructure costs between $5K and $10K per month.

Re: Paging Duane: Chumby server(s)

Someone is still paying that?  Or do you feel the last payment may have been made?

Re: Paging Duane: Chumby server(s)

Unfortunately, I'm not free to discuss how it's currently being funded.  Sorry.
