Topic: GD Radio not working [blue octy radio]

GD Radio in [blue octy radio] has not been working for me for a couple of weeks now.

Don't know if it's just my chumby or a global problem that affects everyone.

Re: GD Radio not working [blue octy radio]

I don't usually listen to GD Radio on Blue Octy. But I just tried it and I can't get it here, either in NY. (Tried on C1 and C8.) I see a couple of other stations in Blue Octy showing "idle" tonight, too. But, you should be able to get the GD Radio stream if you add the "Winamp Stream" from their web site into MyStreams-

Re: GD Radio not working [blue octy radio]

Thanks Bob for the work around, it's much appreciated : )  Chillin' like Dylan again with GD Radio now available for me on [my streams] even though it still doesn't work from the specific [blue octy radio] channel.

I'm located in NY too, GD Radio and alarm clock are about all I use my Chumby for these days.

It took 10 minutes or more though to type in the stream address in my streams because the Chumby keyboard is just not very user friendly at all.  Tapping each key 5 to 6 times before they finally register makes me dread using the thing anymore but it was worth it to be able to listen to GD Radio on the device again.

I did try other [blue octy radio radio] streams and noticed like you that some work and some don't.  I can only imagine they have all been out of service for the same length of time.  Wonder what gives and if they'll ever get fixed, it's been a couple of weeks or more already.  Sure can't rely on any of them for a wake up alarm.

Re: GD Radio not working [blue octy radio]

@Chum_Bee, I'm glad that worked for you. If you poke around the web sites of most streaming stations, you can find a compatible stream. Some try to "hide" the full URL, but if you hover over the link sometimes you can see it. As for that Chumby keyboard, it gets easier the longer you use it. It's not like most screens, if you just give the letter a quick tap and wait it works, just don't hold your finger on it for any length of time at all.

I think Blue Octy isn't getting updated anymore. Plus, a lot of stations have switched to Flash streams or other formats the Chumby won't play.

Other than the internet-only stations, you can hunt around for the broadcast stations that have streams- a lot of tiny radio stations in tiny towns have streams. You can find some great stuff like *real* blues in some stations in the south, real hillbilly music, etc. For an example, try this unique "Americana" station (http://www.hay98.com/) from Whitley City, Kentucky. Overnight's best- no commercials, no 'dj,' Unfortunately, you'll have no idea what you're hearing, but it sure isn't like anything in NY-

There's an old reliable web site (updated since 2000) where you can get info on any broadcast station, including if it streams. (They'll show the URL with a little "i" icon.)  It's at

http://www.radio-locator.com/

Let me know if you need any link in particular. I "collect" streams!
