Topic: Hacker board boot fails

I can't seem to get my Hacker board to boot up.  I have a 5V supply, FTDI interface, and am using Tera Term.  When I power up I get this message:

Loading SD image...
Reading 0x00000800 bytes from offset 0x0000b800 to destination 0x45a00000

And that's it.

Using Win32DiskImager, I tried burning the file "rom-falconwing.img" to another SD card and now I get this message:

Loading SD image...
Reading 0x00000800 bytes from offset 0x0000b800 to destination 0x45a00000
Skipping 2944 chunks
Reading 0x00034800 bytes from offset 0x0000f800 to destination 0x40808000
Skipping 3968 chunks

Nothing else after that.

I have not tried to do anything to the original card yet except read it to make a backup of the image.

Any ideas what to try next?

Randy

Re: Hacker board boot fails

OK, found the problem.  When the board is booting the power supply drops out from a current spike.  Another supply solves the problem.

Sorry for the false alarm.

Re: Hacker board boot fails

I had a weak power supply too, but the boot porocess crashed a lot further down. In fact, the boot was almost completely done then ...  nothing...  That was misleading since that was my first attempt at booting the device and I did not know what to expect. I should have been aware to the fact that the crash did not occur at the same line, but at random places.

I changed the power supply; then everything went back to normal.

Happy chumby.
