Topic: Simple paint job - Chumby one

This is nothing compared to what some have done but I just couldn't look at the white case anymore. Every time I looked at my Chumby I thought "seventies". After disassembling, painting with "oil rubbed bronze" and trimming with copper I am much happier. Bronze metal flake may not be everyone's choice but it works for me.

Very cool!

Re: Simple paint job - Chumby one

Sorry, you thought "seventies" before or after the paint job?

I actually HAD a White w/blue trim alarm clock in the seventies so I would say before. Like I said in my original post this may not be everyone's choice but I like it.

It is an impressive piece of work.
What kind of paint did you use? Did you need to use any kind of additive to make it stick to the plastic?

Thanks.

Rustoleum oil rubbed bronze. They make spray paint designed for plastic now. I roughed up the shell with some emory paper first. Used painters tape and Q-tips to keep paint out of the screw holes and other areas paint doesn't belong. The copper trim is just stripped solid core wire. It took a lot of time to get it bent just right. I want to inlay the button on top with copper too but I just haven't had the time.
