Topic: Offline Access?

Is there a plan to allow everything currently loaded on our Damby's to be loaded for a non-chumby source?  In case Chumby goes dark again?    Maybe have all the files required for basic running (even sans wigits) loaded on a thumb drive?

I'm hoping it never does -- but I'd like a solution available even if I never needed it.

Re: Offline Access?

Chumby went ..... "dim", (never dark) because the business model of the initial service wasn't self sustaining.

Since the relaunch, it's self sustaining.

As Duane said, is it possible, someday in the future, that there won't be enough people subscribing to sustain the service? Sure, anything's possible. But that day isn't anywhere on the horizon, and by that time, something will get put together, just like happened when Chumby went dim.

Cleaning up any loose bits and bytes.

I stand corrected.  Thanks!

Also, reading between the lines I think you answered my question in the affirmative -- at least that's how I'll choose to interpret it.  I feel comfortable that SHOULD chumby.com ever shutter and Duane (et al) have any say they'll do the community a solid and not do something like Sony.

Then again, will I really still be using the dash 5 or 6 years from now?  I don't know.  I never expected to use it when I first purchased it as a fire sale items 5 or 6 years ago intending to rip it apart or hack it.  But when I configured it for the first time it was the best damn clock I ever had.  Still is thanks to you guys.

You're new here, as are many others, and don't know the history.... It's pretty much all in the forums here, but that would entail a lot of digging... but just to give you a bit of an idea about Duane having any say, and doing the community "a solid"... read these threads, and what they mean.
