there used to be a youtube widget, I don't know whether it'll be available in the new service, time will tell.

Can chumby be programmed to run APK apps? * I bring this suggestion from using an Ouya device that uses these simple apps IMO.

It can't. The device simply isn't powerful enough to run Android.

I have seen Android 1.6 "sort of" work on a chumby.  My guess is that it could be made functional, since the things that weren't working looked fixable should someone take the time.

The hardware requirements for recent versions of Android are *way* too high.
