Topic: Turn your monitor into a chumby

The chumby screensaver is now available for download!

First, make sure your system setup meets the following minimum requirements:

  • Windows XP SP3 or Windows 7 32 bit (We tested against XP SP3 - other setup results may vary)

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile or higher

  • Internet Explorer 8.0 or higher

  • Adobe Flash 10.1 IE plugin or higher

  • CONNECTED to the internet

The screensaver will not work unless the requirements are met on your system. With that in mind, here are the steps for installation:

  1. Download the screensaver file here (right-click and "save target as")

  2. Navigate to the location where the file is saved and right-click on it. Select "Install" from the option menu

  3. After installation, the Display > Screensaver properties should launch automatically. Select the chumby screensaver from the selection drop-down

  4. You can run the screensaver as-is and see some selected apps from the team here at chumby that should look good on your monitor. Press the ESC key to see the screensaver control panel. From here you can view the previous app, next app, pin an app or exit the screensaver completely. You can also go forward or back in the applications by just pressing the right and left arrow keys on your keyboard.

IMPORTANT: YOU MUST PRESS THE ESC KEY ON YOUR KEYBOARD AND THEN SELECT THE EXIT BUTTON TO EXIT THE SCREENSAVER! If you want the screensaver to exit on mouse or keyboard events, go to Control Panel > Display > Screensaver, select the chumby screensaver from the drop-down menu and then select Settings to access the options to exit on keyboard and/or mouse events.

If you are curious to see other chumby apps running on the screensaver, you must activate it to configure your channel. Here's how:

  • Go to Control Panel > Display > Screensaver, select the chumby screensaver from the drop-down menu and then select Settings

  • Select the activate button, which will launch your browser to chumby.com. You must activate the screensaver as a device, just like a regular chumby classic or chumby one.

  • Enter the oval pattern that is on your browser inside of the settings screen for the screensaver.

  • On the webpage, once the ID number appears, select the activate button

Your chumby is now activated as a device and it can be found in your dashboard. You can play any of your channels in the screensaver, however...

PLEASE NOTE: Many of the chumby apps are optimized for 320 x 240 resolution screens. Therefore, you may see some funky business going on with some widgets. If you choose to register and activate the screensaver and run your own channels, please understand this is why some content may not display well on the chumby screensaver.

We'd love to hear your feedback! If you run into any issues or have any questions, please reply to the forum section for the screensaver.
