Topic: Chumby One - On a tripod

Ok so this is no major hack but I think its worth posting.

I received my Chumby One only a few hours ago but had this idea a about the time I ordered it.
I realize that the Chumby is designed to be picked up and handled but when its on the table I think it is a bit awkward to see.

I had the idea of mounting the One on a tilt and turn (swivel) tripod.
Simply drill a hole in the battery cover, push the tripod through and get nut and screw on.
I found it was stable enough to use as long as the tripod stayed still which mine doesn't (I have already ordered a different one).
Anyways I'll let the pictures show what I mean.
I made sure I taped up the battery lid before drilling just in case the cover cracks.

The tripod I used, yes its small:

The battery lid:

Now this is where I went major wrong. I simply drilled a hole in the middle of the battery cover not realizing that the back of the One is heavier. I then tried to rectify this by drilling a hole further back, far enough not to just make one huge hole but ended up too far. The red dot or in between my two holes is where I should have drilled, but too late for that.

So I then simply screwed the nut on:

and clipped the One back on:

Anyway turned out the tripod was a bit small to support the One, so I ordered another one which will hopefully be better.

So feedback please, any better way to have done this or something with similar results?

Re: Chumby One - On a tripod

very nice!   I've found that the back plate, once removed, also works as a nice 4-legged stand to lift the c1 up off of the desktop and improve the viewing angle.  Unfortunately (or fortunately?) you then have no back plate to keep your fingers out of the device internals.
