Topic: Developer- installed widget count

Not that I'm narcissistic, but it would be nice to see a rough count of how many Chumby's are using my widgets.
Maybe just a channel count or something. Something that would let me know.. "Update this widget, make it better, people are using it you dork.."
LOL.

If you have a public widget, then we already have something in place for this. Go to the widget guide http://www.chumby.com/guide , go to your widget listing -- using the search would be the easiest way to find it. On that page, there should be a popularity ranking. The popularity ranking is dependent on how many people have in their channels compared to the rest of the widgets in that category.

For example:
If there are 3 widgets in a category, from most popular to least popular.
1. has a ranking 1/3
2. has a ranking 2/3
3. has a ranking 3/3

This is the best way to judge the 'rough count'. Currently we don't provide the exact number. Why? I will have to get back to you on that one. I hope this helps out a little.

Re: Developer- installed widget count

Sorry but that ranking doesn't mean anything.
Depending on the category, you could be #2 in rank and only have 5 people using the widget.
Another category like news, your widget could be like #20 and have a 1000 people.
Developers need hard numbers to see what is working and what is not. We need to be able to see how well the widget is doing.

And this doesnt have to be a live thing. Just maybe a weekly report or something.

Re: Developer- installed widget count

We'll submit the request to Product Management.  Sounds reasonable.
