Topic: My Streams widget doesn't follow http redirects

Another surprise with the dash is some of the streams defined in url_streams, after copying from the classic chumby, do not work as they require following http redirects. Is there a way to solve this issue without having to rewrite the URL?

Re: My Streams widget doesn't follow http redirects

All of the standalone chumby-enabled devices with the exception of the dash use a media player called "bluetunes".  The dash uses a stock Sony-designed media player, the same one they use(d) in their television sets and setup boxes.  Apparently it was never anticipated by Sony that this player, when it was designed, would need to play user-defined URLs that require additional processing, since normally the stuff sent to the player is strictly controlled (typically by using the Sony supplied media apps that come with the TVs).

Even if I had the source code to that player to modify it, I can't update the version on the device because the firmware is locked and can't be updated without access to Sony's security keys.

Sorry about that.

Re: My Streams widget doesn't follow http redirects

Apologies, my bad..., turns out the problem is elsewhere. I used a url w/o redirection and the problem is dash can not play aac streams - Content-Type: audio/aac - which classic has no problems playing.

Re: My Streams widget doesn't follow http redirects

Ahh, that's quite possible - again, the Sony media player was designed to handle very specific and controlled media types in order to support their TVs.

Re: My Streams widget doesn't follow http redirects

This is quite a setback for somebody using Chumby as a net radio. On chumby classic btplay can play the following types of audio streams:

audio/L16
audio/aac
audio/aacp
audio/aiff
audio/m4a
audio/mp3
audio/mp4
audio/mpeg
audio/mpeg3
audio/mpg
audio/pcm
audio/vnd.bluetune.iso-base-es
audio/vnd.bluetune.mp4-es
audio/wav

Re: My Streams widget doesn't follow http redirects

Well, we didn't get to pick the media player on the dash smile.  They used theirs mostly because it also supports video, so could be used for their "BIVL" video services - Netflix, Crackle etc.
