Topic: How many Chumbies?

is it possible to tell how many Chumbies are still in use?
just curious

Re: How many Chumbies?

Duane should be able to see how many are hitting the server.

Yes, it is, but I'm not sure that's 'public knowledge'.

Cleaning up any loose bits and bytes.

Seems to me that Duane gave a ball park figure in a post a while back.

I don't remember that post. He has been asked before about the numbers of active units and has chosen not to answer. I can think of several reasons why and respect his decision.

As of 10:30am PST, 6517 chumbys are hitting the new server - the domain change is still propagating.
As of 10:45am PST, 7997 chumbys

Re: "Stub" server scheduled to go live on Wednesday, February 20 2013
As of 12:40pm PST, we have 18,881 devices hitting the server
EDIT: As of 1:05pm PST, we've passed 20,000 devices.

Re: "Stub" server scheduled to go live on Wednesday, February 20 2013
We're currently at 36,419 chumbys hitting the server.
We've uncovered a few more leeches - a French blog, a handful of Japanese sites.
It turns out the Russians were also leeching some Javascript from us.  That will turn out to have been a *very* bad idea.

Re: "Stub" server scheduled to go live on Wednesday, February 20 2013
I've cleared the server logs that track all unique hits, but at this point, 45,344 devices have reauthorized since the stub server went online.  It's likely there are a few more devices that have not rebooted since then, and thus haven't reauthorized, but my guess at this point that that's under 1,000

Re: "Stub" server scheduled to go live on Wednesday, February 20 2013
Not exactly sure what you're asking for,
The current stub system has 83,590 unique devices that have authorized since the system was brought online in February. It has a sustained outbound load of 2MBit/sec with no bursting or appreciable variance in load over day or week periods.  There is no appreciable storage requirement since it's basically serving static files and/or providing authentication services for third parties (mainly the music services).

There may be others.

2013, no wonder I don't remember. That was before all the Sony Dashes became Chumbified.

Re: How many Chumbies?

Haven't been on this site in a while. Good to see it's still active.
I have three Chumby's that are still in use.
