Topic: chumbydash + USB Photo Widget: solved

hey yall, lovin' my resurrected chumbydash :-D

running the Sony appview theme (yay!) and trying to get the USB Photo Widget working.

I have uploaded the photos.pl script per the instructions but its not being executed by the widget.  The widget itself just shows a black screen with "Loading Filelist.."

Any ideas about this widget?

thanks,F

Hey yall, well I solved my USB photos problem.

The widget wasn't running the Perl script you upload to the Dash because, drum roll, the webserver isn't started by default on the Dash.

So I made two changes, I removed the space from the folder name of my photos, and I started the webserver.

Now the old USB Photos widget works great and is cycling through my photos.

My Dash is back, and better than ever.

Thanks y'all!  big_smile

Re: chumbydash + USB Photo Widget: solved

so the usb drive - fat32 2gb acceptable?
put just the two files in the zip on the thumb drive (not in a subdirectory)

boot dash -
I should see control panel?
mine just boots loads network tries to load widget, then says widget requires script.

please describe what should happen.

oh wooh is me..

Re: chumbydash + USB Photo Widget: solved

and how do I start the webserver -
touch /psp/start.httpd   where? how?

sigh...

"touch" is a command.   just type all that in, after sshing into the unit.

Cleaning up any loose bits and bytes.

Re: chumbydash + USB Photo Widget: solved

Thanks for the wiki. But Where does one get the photos.pl script? I did a search here and on search engines and did not find the script or does this come preloaded in the Dash?

Re: chumbydash + USB Photo Widget: solved

Hi there. I tried to follow it all. This is what I did:

1) Copied photos.pl to a pen drive
2) Also made a folder PhotoShow in the same pen drive
3) plugged pen drive in my ChumbyDash
4) Logged in as root using Putty (through the Pi Menu)
5) Typed, as instructured, the touch command
6) Went to "[USB-Symbol] My Photos" sub-menu item in the "Photos" menu item.
7) Picked the folder "PhotoShow", and "Display All"
8) And then it did not work as I excpected and I was left staring at the spinning "Loading Image" animation forever

Am I missing something? I appreciate you attention!

For the record:
a) I am not a paid subscriber with Chumby (just installed Chumby Dash today)...
b) I am using the AppViewer theme from Sony

This may be a very dumb question: the USB photo widget is the app that is downloaded from chumby.com after you have the paid subscription? Not the "My Photos" in Chumby Menu>Photos>My Photos ?

Whatever it is, I'm missing it too.

Re: chumbydash + USB Photo Widget: solved

did you guys get it working?  yes, you have to pay the $3 in order to get the USB Photo widget downloaded from the chumby servers.
