Topic: Doom! Yahoo Pipes shutting down

As seen at http://pipes.yqlblog.net/post/120705592 … nouncement

As of August 30th 2015, users will no longer be able to create new Pipes. The Pipes team will keep the infrastructure running until end of September 30th 2015 in a read-only mode.

I know I've personally used Yahoo! Pipes to handle some data massage for Chumby RSS feeds, and I expect a few widgets use it also.  Looks like a good time to figure out alternate processing schemes.

Re: Doom! Yahoo Pipes shutting down

You've got to remember that there are two certainties in life: death, and Yahoo! shutting down free services.

Re: Doom! Yahoo Pipes shutting down

Several of the widgets use Yahoo Pipes, so this will be a problem for us.  I guess I'll have to build out something else.

Looks like I'm running eleven pipes at the moment, so not too bad.

It would be nice if they released it Open Source so we could simply host it ourselves.

Re: Doom! Yahoo Pipes shutting down

The comment thread at https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9660682 lists a few alternatives, including some that you can host yourself.  https://github.com/cantino/huginn seemed to be popular.

Re: Doom! Yahoo Pipes shutting down

Yeah I'm looking into a few options, including huginn.  Unfortunately it doesn't look like it's just a gem I could integrate into the existing content system, I'd probably have to spin up another server for it.

There's another one that allegedly converts Yahoo Pipes configurations into node.js scripts.

...and it's dead.

Re: Doom! Yahoo Pipes shutting down

Yep, already fixed one of the affected widgets, will do the rest that are under my control.
