Topic: Can't stream music

I enabled streaming on my PC using Windows Media Player and I can get photos and videos to stream to my Chumby, but not music.  The network option shows up under photos and videos, but not under music.  what am I missing?

Re: Can't stream music

I'm not positive, but I think Windows Media Player only streams .wma  audio, which the Chumby doesn't recognize. If you have a Chumby One or I3.5 (Little plastic ones, screens about the size of an iPhone), you can get beta firmware that lets you stream it here:  http://forum.chumby.com/viewtopic.php?id=7096 . If you have a Chumby Classic (Leather one) you can get firmware that lets you stream it here: http://forum.chumby.com/viewtopic.php?id=7277  . You just stream it by entering the IP address of the WMA music in the URL field of My Streams, and setting the type of playback to MP3. If you have a Chumby 8 or I8 (Looks like a picture frame) than you're SOL.

Re: Can't stream music

OK, thanks.  I should have said, I have an I8.  All mys music is .mp3.  You enable streaming from WMP but I think it is actually some background task doing the work.

I guess what I don't understand is that from Video or Pictures on the I8, the folders on my PC for video, pictures, and music all appear.  Of course if I open the music folder from Pictures, it says the folder is empty.  But under Music there isn't even a network option, so the folder can't even be displayed.

Re: Can't stream music

Are you using a new version of WMP? The older ones definitely were wma-centric.

Re: Can't stream music

Also, you may want to try using Logitech Media Center, and putting your IP into the Squeezebox Server option, although not having an I8 I don't know if it has this music source or not.

Re: Can't stream music

Version 12 Media Player.  I tried Logitech; it was flakey - appeared, then disappeared.  Maybe I didn't give it enough time and effort.  It shouldn't be this hard to do this stuff, but seems like it often is.
