Topic: Chumby (Infocast8) starts playing music randomly

My Chumby (Infocast8) sometimes starts playing, all by itself.

My wife keeps unplugging it because it "scares her" :-(  I haven't witnessed it personally, so I don't know what is actually playing (Pandora?).  So I thought I'd check here on the forums.

Has anyone else had that experience?  Everything else seems to work OK..

Thanks,.
Kurt

time to make that hard decision, wife, or chumby, it's obvious she's jealous.

we all know the right choice, but will you make it?

after all, there's plenty of potential wives out there, chumbies? not so much.

Cleaning up any loose bits and bytes.

Can you find out what it "starts playing"? Are you running the stock software or Zurk's? If you're running the stock software, then the only thing that should be on the screen is the clock; if it starts playing music, it may be that it last remembers it was playing music (Pandora, IHeartRadio, etc) and is trying to start that back up -- in which case the best way to end that cycle would be to gracefully quit the music player rather than unplugging the I8 wink

Also, Chumbys are easier and much more economical to take care of, and they can never leave you. And you can make them do whatever you want (Okay, that last bit is a bit creepy if taken the wrong way).

I nominate this for best post of the Chumby forums.

Funny thread!

...but to get back to the original question, have you checked your alarm settings?

That is the first thing that I thought of.  A few months ago, my Chumby One started playing music at midnight.  Didn't bother me much since I'm usually still up at that hour, but my wife (who had been asleep for several hours at that point) was not amused.  When I looked in the alarm settings, I found a bunch of alarms that my kids had set for various times of the day and night.  I had to tell them, again, to keep their grubby fingers off my alarm clock.  mad
