Topic: Infocast 8 Power Connector Pinout/Voltage/Amperage

I cannot seem to find the Silvermoon Schematic but I picked up a dead Infocast 8 that just seems to be missing its power connector. I think it is supposed to be 5V 2.5A center positive, can someone confirm this?

Re: Infocast 8 Power Connector Pinout/Voltage/Amperage

That's what it says on my I8 device, in more than one place.

Thanks for the confirmation, now to wait for a barrel connector.

Re: Infocast 8 Power Connector Pinout/Voltage/Amperage

just pick up any AXIS 5V AC adaptor from ebay for 10-15 bux and use it.

not just "any", you need to make sure that not only is it 5vDC, but that it can supply at least the needed current and that the polarity is correct (is the tip positive or negative?)).

The OEM is rated at
5vDC
2500mA (which is 2.5A)
and the tip is positive and the outside barrel is negative.
Also, you need to make sure the tip and barrel diamater are correct too. Too small and it will not make contact and too large it will not be able to be inserted into the jack.
I do not know the size, anyone? 2.1mm x 5.5mm?
The OEM one I have is a KSS18-050-2500U

Re: Infocast 8 Power Connector Pinout/Voltage/Amperage

Folks, I meant the connector on the board. I was also missing the bottom housing so I didn't have the voltages or pictogram of the adapter printed handily out the outside of the connector. I promise I'm not that feeble. I ended up soldering directly to the board. This did work for a while but it was acting as a media player in the car and the traces were actually pulled from the board.
Too right, any adapter will not do. On the eight inch screens only 1/2 the screen is backlit with anything under 1.5A.

Re: Infocast 8 Power Connector Pinout/Voltage/Amperage

Yes, the C8/I8 are rated at 2.5A (2500mA).  The connector is something odd, I think I posted it elsewhere after digging it up one time... it's 3.5mm x 1.3mm if I'm not mistaken.  Fortunately, that connector size is a little more common than the C1/I3.5's!

As for connecting to the board itself, are you still keeping your I8 in its housing?  If so, I might suggest adding a "pigtail" to it -- solder wires (about 6"-8") to the board, tie a knot in them about 1.5"-2" from the solder connection (has to be big enough to NOT fit through the hole), feed the end of the wire through the hole in the housing, then solder a standard-sized (like 5.5mm x 2.5mm) connector on the pigtail.  It's not pretty, but it keeps any strain on the cord from stressing the solder joint.  I did this on my laptop once -- the soldered-on connector died about a year after I bought the laptop... the pigtail lasted 2-3 years, until I scrapped the laptop for parts because it was too slow tongue

Re: Infocast 8 Power Connector Pinout/Voltage/Amperage

It seemed the easy way to get a replacement power supply for Chumby is to buy a powered USB hub with 7 ports or higher.
The power connector and amperage seemed to work for :
