Topic: Some general questions about the chumby hardware

Hey all,

1) I got a chumby Christmas and now I'm thinking about getting another one to play around with (hacking, modding etc).

I've seen the hacker board (CHB) and I like that it has 3 USB ports but for $55 at Best Buy (Infocast) I think I would rather get the whole deal even if it only has one USB.

Therefore, I was wondering if the Chumby can serve as a USB host ? I couldn't find this info in the wiki.

Would be nice to be able to attach a USB hub to add ports.

2) Also, was wondering if there was a capacity limit on the sd card ?

Can it take an 8GB or 32GB ? Probably wouldn't need more than like 4 tho.

3) Oh, and if you take out the wifi dongle it comes with, will it work with an 802.11n wifi card ?

Thanks

LC

Re: Some general questions about the chumby hardware

1) The Chumby is a USB host.

2) I believe that it can, within the constraints of the filesystem being used.

3) You'd probably need to add drivers for whatever replacement Wifi dongle you would be adding.  You may not see any performance improvement with 802.11n - the device probably can't keep up with that data rate anyway, particularly over USB.

I use 16GB cards in mine, and they work great.

Re: Some general questions about the chumby hardware

Woot has the Chumby One for sale today for $50, so that's also an option if you hurry. I got one. I have no idea why since I already have 2 Infocast 3.5s. Addiction?
