Topic: Infocast Teardown

Has anyone seen an Infocast teardown similar to the one for the Chumby One?

Re: Infocast Teardown

Not a teardown, but pictures of the circuit board and information about hacking it can be found here: http://www.bunniestudios.com/blog/?cat=2

Tar, feathers, congress. Some assembly required.

Re: Infocast Teardown

I too would be very interested in a teardown.
I'm wondering if one can't just trash all that bulky plastic and wrap the PCB behind the screen to make it into a wall mounted device, maybe getting rid of the speakers too...

Re: Infocast Teardown

I borrowed one and took it mostly apart but I didn't take pictures. What your describing is certainly possible.  I'm more interested in using it in a robotics type application.  The extra mips, more memory and additional HS USB ports are making it seem more desirable than the Chumby One that I purchased and planned to use.

Re: Infocast Teardown

jronald : when I saw the pictures of the PCB on bunnie's blog, and the picture of the end product on best buy's website, my first thought was that the PCB must be smaller than the screen (so it would be hidden behind it if folded) and that the plastic case is mostly full of air. Can you confirm the second point ?

Re: Infocast Teardown

Yes, that is pretty much the case.  The PCB is mounted in the base.  The curved area contains the speakers with a resonator area to make the speakers sound better. The screen is bigger than the PCB.  Also, the WiFi antenna is run along side the display like a laptop.

I bought a BB8 yesterday and have already taken it apart.  Here are the pictures for your enjoyment:
