Topic: Widget for use on InfoCast

I am developing for an Insignia InfoCast. After installing FlashDevelop I created a simple app (Hello World) and added some moving graphics to it. The swf builds fine and the app will run in the developer environment on a Windows XP machine. It is configured for Flash 9, 30 frames per second.

Using the instructions on this wiki page, I can start the ssh daemon on the InfoCast, make the ssh connection using PuTTy, and stop the flash player on the InfoCast (InfoCast screen goes blank). When I issue the
    chumbyflashplayer.x -i /mnt/usb/myWidget.swf,
the InfoCast screen changes to an icon for Flash9 but the widget does not run on the InfoCast screen. The PuTTy CLI appears to be cycling with text that reads:
  2010-08-12 08:07:10 ClientObject::MainLoop(playCount=9192) master instance 002127d8 is not playing!!
  2010-08-12 08:07:12 ClientObject::MainLoop(playCount=9216) master instance 002127d8 is not playing!!
This repeats every 2 seconds, updating the time and incrementing playCount by 24 each time.

FlashDevelop is configured for 30 frames per second, but the repeating playCount increments by 24 every 2 seconds. Should the widget be built for 12 frames per second rather than 30? Any other config issues to make this Widget playable?

Re: Widget for use on InfoCast

The Infocast is running FlashLite 3.1.7 - that means that your movie must use Actionscript 2, not Actionscript 3.

Re: Widget for use on InfoCast

Can you direct me to AS2 sample code? I've found lots of AS3 samples but not much for AS2.

Re: Widget for use on InfoCast

There are lots of AS2 examples available at Flash Kit and Free Actionscript, or try Googling "+flash +sample +code +as2".

Re: Widget for use on InfoCast

If it's possible to provide a link to one complete application that builds in FlashDevelop and runs on the InfoCast, that would be a big help. Even "Hello World" would help. And maybe instructions for setting up the AS2 FlashDevelop environment for InfoCast? The Flex SDK appears to have folders for Player 9 and 10, but FlashDevelop looks like it's trying for Player 8.

has this changed?  this https://developer.chumby.com/index.php/Main_Page says it supports as3

Re: Widget for use on InfoCast

If you want your app to run on all chumby devices, both today and going forward, develop in as2.

If you want to use as3 however, you will need to install our development firmware release onto an Infocast 8" as instructed at developer.chumby.com .   This development firmware release is a preview - our next-gen devices (chumby 8, android, ...) will support as3 apps (as well as as2 apps of course).  Over time, many of our existing devices will also receive firmware updates to enable support for as3 apps.  Any as3 apps are also entered into the contest.

Re: Widget for use on InfoCast

Hello!

I'm having almost exactly the same difficulty as the original post, except I'm on a Chumby One.

2011-03-23 22:16:38 ClientObject::MainLoop(playCount=48) master instance 00242610 is not playing!!!
2011-03-23 22:16:39 ClientObject::MainLoop(playCount=72) master instance 00242610 is not playing!!!

I have installed Flash Develop, and attempted to run the pure ActionScript 2 Demo Project on the Chumby.
The demo project is at
http://www.flashdevelop.org/wikidocs/in … llWorkflow

I also installed  the extremely useful Accelerated Development plugin  (works! thankyou) .
The widget is copied fine to the Chumby and starts running, but produces the output above to the SSH client.

Before we get started on a convoluted thread, please can anyone tell me the root cause of this output?

Thanks, in hope!

PS. In case it helps, here's the log output in full:
