Topic: USB on/off switch
Say I connected a USB device to chumby - is there anyway I could rig it to switch on and off rather than have to unplug it all the time? The device I am thinking of has no on/off switch...simple solutions preferred.

you could get a double throw switch, and put it on the data +, and the power +, then just flick it off.
Or you could get a SPDT (single pole, double throw) switch and tie it between the +5v on the port and the +5v to the device device. Hit it off and then the circuit will break. To do this, cut some insulation off a usb extension cable near the middle, snip the red wire and connect both to the switch. Then just cover the whole thing in electrical tape and you are done. Just remember, if the device is being written to it may be corrupted if you just cut it off.
er, thats what i said. except cutting the five volt wont do anything if the usb device doesnt rely on bus power. my way is much more definite.
Go Chedabob...U tell him!!
hey angela, what was the device?
I don't wanna say in the forum because I want to be the first with my craft design idea....I'll email you. If you can help me out you might get a cover. I'm all about the spirit of community today!
