Topic: Do widgets still run in night mode?
I'm thinking specifically of the server monitoring widget, and wondering if it will still sound an alarm in night mode, cause my web server going down is something worth waking up for!

No - the widgets are suspended in night mode.
At some point we'll be building a more elaborate event notification architecture.

is there any way to dim the screen without night mode? i would LOVE the ability to have some outside notifications set up that would make my chumby go crazy!

Yes - the wiki documents the extensions that be made to Flash Lite to control the hardware. Note that many of the operations that alter hardware settings aren't accessible to widgets, but are accessible to a Flash movie run from a USB flash drive.
The reason we don't expose these to widgets is that we don't want authors to create malicious widgets that can mess up a user's settings, such as alter the volume or turn off the screen.
