Topic: Just ordered my Chumby!

I just ordered my new Chumby with 2nd day delivery option so can't wait to get it,  any ideas or suggestions for a newbie like me?

The main reason I got this device is because of its clock options, it is my understanding that one can set up different alarms for each day of the week at different times of the day, with whatever sounds I decide to use, is this actually the case or is this feature limited to internet radio stations? been looking for a while for an alarm clock that will allow me this, so far I only found the Neverlate Executive and the Chumby, but I think the Chumby is a better option, ordered both, will see which one I keep after trying them, I think the Chumby is a keeper what do you guys say?

Did you get the "Chumby One" or "Chumby Classic" ($119 and $149 respectively)?

Re: Just ordered my Chumby!

Hey burkhardi, thanks for your reply, I got the Chumby One for $119 + shipping and handling

Re: Just ordered my Chumby!

I think you will be very happy with the C1 (Chumby One); unlike the CC (Chumby Classic,) it was made to use a battery so you will have backup power (battery is sold seperatly through a thrid party). Also, it will recover (I guess power back up on it's own if it was on is a better way to put it) from a power loss, unlike the frist generation CC (the second gen CC will recover). As far as sounds, there is a list (not too large) of sounds for the alarm's build in sounds, or you can use internet radio, Pandora, NOAA or some other ones, too. It's really pretty neat all the options you have. I think you may be able to import your own sounds, but you have to do some tricks and access the C1 via telnet or USB but I don't know if the latter is 100% true, so wait for anothe answer from someone else on this thread, search the forums or wait till it shows up.
Hope this was semi helpful, Matt

Re: Just ordered my Chumby!

And the other thing that you can do that is not always obvious to new owners, is set it up with 'alarms' that do things for you silently. For example, I set my alarm to sound at 7.30, but the Chumby silently switches itself on to a 'Morning' channel of news, clocks, weather, email and Google calendar an hour beforehand. If I wake before the alarm I can look at these for a while before it's time to get up. Another silent 'alarm' later in the morning turns the Chumby back into Night Mode for the day.

Re: Just ordered my Chumby!

That's quite nice steelpaw, I'll have mine by tomorrow hopefully, I will try setting up cool things like that, so basically you set up alarms that don't actually make a sound but basically turn on to wigets with news or videos etc? that's pretty cool.

yes, steelpaw brought up a great point.
I have mine set to (with silent alarm) turn on "dim mode" at 10PM; I also have another one set for 6:45 to lauch my "wake up" channel and a third at 9AM to launch the "Default" channel.

I wish they called they type of silent alarms "events" since it seems to confuse and/or be over looked by new Chunby users (some old ones too)...
