Topic: ORB Widgets

Hello Developers.

For various reasons I am no longer going to be maintaining the ORB widgets.  If anyone wants to pick them up, let me know, and I'll pass you the files.  Be warned the code is a mess, but you may be able to get something out of it.  smile

The ORB widgets are:

http://www.chumby.com/guide/widget/ORB%20iTV
http://www.chumby.com/guide/widget/ORB%20Streamer
http://www.chumby.com/guide/widget/ORB%20TV%20Tuner
http://www.chumby.com/guide/widget/ORB%20Web%20Radio

If you do decide to pick any of them up, I will remove my submitted versions (when your ready), and you can take over from there.

Cheers.

Re: ORB Widgets

If there's nothing you want to protect in the code, you might consider putting them in the gforge repository, then you can simply add interested developers.

I was wondering what the quality "threshold" was for the forge.  I am basically handing over a "quick and dirty" code base, and it will probably confuse anyone who was trying to learn. smile

But if you think that would be appropriate, I have no problem with that.

Cheers.

Re: ORB Widgets

There's no quality threshold, as will become immediately apparent when I upload the source to some of *my* widgets smile

Re: ORB Widgets

it doesn't work yet..

gforge.chumby.com uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed.
(Error code: sec_error_ca_cert_invalid)

Re: ORB Widgets

We're currently using a self-signed certificate for the repository until we're confident that people are actually going to use the thing.

Re: ORB Widgets

Cbreeze - I winced a little as I released code that I'd never originally intended for public consumption, wondering who will be scoffing or mocking my programming style... But, you know what, I'm trying not to care about that, and I hope that if my code or ideas are imperfect that others can at least use them to build upon, and make something better.

Plus, I've even now gotten my head to a place where I plan to release incomplete and abandoned ideas - things I played about with but that never made it into a fully complete program. If I had the time I would develop these, but I have too many ideas for the free time that I have, so I don't mind if someone else wants to run with something that I have dropped.

I see the Chumby Forge as a kind of 'garage sale' (car boot sale to us Brits) where we each share what we have finished with, or are no longer pursuing, and *maybe* we'll see something on one of the other stalls that we'd like to pick up and run with. See my 'garage sale' at http://gforge.chumby.com/frs/?group_id=7 - more there as I get the time.

Re: ORB Widgets

Hi cbreeze,

Where's the code? I'd like to try to revive these widgets.

Thanks!
