Re: SIM Card slot???

you don't run the entire linux operating system from the sim card, you run a small authentication key generator on the microcontroller contained within the SIM card, that generates a rotating key, and lets say stores 10 of them on its internal EEPROM.

Personally i think it's a GREAT idea! Do what the mobile phone companies have done - a combination of IMEI (Chumby Equivalent: MAC Address) and the SIM Authentication Key (Use in chumby) It seems to work for them! And what's to stop you from allowing a certain number of IMEI/SIM combinations in a single Premium Chumby account?

hoping for a chumby release before xmas.
every chumby is squishy, except the ones that arent.

It works for them because there's some big disincentives for sharing your SIM. People can answer your calls, rack up outrageous charges on your account, etc. Chumby has none of that. With the proper incentives to keep subscriptions private, its feasible, but there's really no reason why you couldn't just store the key in flash.
