Topic: Portable , rechargeable power source for Chumby

I hear everyone complaining how nice it would be to move around with the Chumby,  but yet there is no built-in solution for this.

How is the success rate with using  rechargable battery pack units they sell for use with portable DVD players and other electronics?  They say it can give 3-4 hrs of a charge and it come with various DC plugs along with voltage regulation to fit most devices.

I know people used the ER-PHOTO type with some success , but that item is a bit pricey at $50.00 +. I saw local target have sales on the other battery packs for as low as $19.00

How about this one:

Energizer ER-DVD MINI

Specs:
Brand      Energizer
Product Type     DVD player battery
Voltage Provided     9.6 V
Capacity     2000 mAh

Why buy a premade battery pack?
Make your own smile
Or better yet, if you need a storage unit, take an old laptop battery and switch out the batteries for some higher capacity rechargeable batteries.

Chumby reminds me of a Wii console and having wires just feels wrong to me.

Music Tames The Savage Beast

As does PHP and Perl.

Re: Portable , rechargeable power source for Chumby

It sounds like the ER-DVD MINI should work. According to the ChumbyWiki:

The chumby uses a very standard 2.1mm I.D. x 5.5mm O.D. x 9.5mm Female (P-5) barrel connector and runs off 1A at anywhere between 6.5 VDC and 14.5 VDC.

I've had good success with the Radio Shack battery: http://forum.chumby.com/viewtopic.php?pid=10986#p10986
