Topic: Japanese font and widget size limitation

Recently I have made a new twitter widget to check updates written in multibyte characters such as Japanese fonts.
I have embeded a Japanese true type font to my widget and the widgets size became over _2M bytes_ since Japanese font is big.
And it is not possible to upload the widget to chumby.com because of the 100K size limitation.
Is there any workaround for this issue?

Re: Japanese font and widget size limitation

For the network, not at the moment - we're looking into including some CJK fonts into the device itself so that you would not have to embed them, but that's not going to happen in the short term.

In the meantime, you'll probably have to run such widgets locally from a USB dongle, using this trick.

Re: Japanese font and widget size limitation

Thank you for your advice.
I'm looking forward to CJK device fonts!

Re: Japanese font and widget size limitation

+1 to include CJK fonts in chumby!

Re: Japanese font and widget size limitation

Count me in for CJK fonts, too!

Re: Japanese font and widget size limitation

Hi Margs,

Can you possibly share the widget you've made others by posting the swf somewhere?
I think that would be great for all us Japanese Chumby fans!

Re: Japanese font and widget size limitation

Yeah, having CJK fonts on the device would be great.  I hope you consider it in the near future!

Re: Japanese font and widget size limitation

Yes, I need CJK fonts, too.

Re: Japanese font and widget size limitation

Me too. I hope that CKJ will be released so early.

Re: Japanese font and widget size limitation

I also am expecting CKJ to come.

Re: Japanese font and widget size limitation

Has there been any movement on this? I'm specifically interested in Chinese characters - both traditional and simplified.

Re: Japanese font and widget size limitation

Guess no change at all, or is there?

Can anyone tell me how to upload my own chinese font to the chumby?

Re: Japanese font and widget size limitation

This is a pretty old thread - support for additional fonts is documented here.

Follow the instructions for creating the font file and creating the Flash player configuration file, then use "device fonts" in the widgets.
