Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

Im thinking that Free Radio Chumby should be a concept reconsidered... At first since Chumby now supports Shoutcast and MediaFly Podcasts as well as add your own stream via My Streams, Free Radio Chumby sorta has become less important. But with all these users offering up websites (some usable, some not).. mebby it would be good to have chumby store these stream entries on their servers and be able to access them from any chumby...

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

Please consider adding FOX News Talk's Live stream

Live programming from 9am-1am daily with non-live programmin on off hours from FOX News Channel. All the great personalities and more is available on the stream from Bill O'Reilly to Brian Kilmeade and Judge Andrew Napolitano. Also on the air is John Gibson, Alan Colmes, Tom Sullivan, Spencer Hughes, and live news casts at the top and bottom of every hour.

The mp3 stream URL is: http://foxnews.ic.llnwd.net/stream/foxnews_live.pls

The stream is in shoutcast but the shoutcast server only hosts 15 listeners. The URL above can carry thousands through a CDN.

Thanks!

This could be used for only those stations that have an "official" widget for them. Anybody know why "Radio Paradise" aborted developing theirs?

Does this trashcan make my head look fat?

My favorite ambient streams are from BlueMars.org - great for sleep.

Bluemars

Cryosleep

Voices From Within

(Even better would be channels for them, to also show the artist/track info. Ah well.)

Damn you guys are hip!  I've been playing Bluemars ever since theprawn's mention.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

Love it for night time. . .

During the day, my favorite thing to fill my ears with has always been the talk from 1079thelink.com -- unfortunately it's all WM/Silverlight based so I was stuck listening to it only when at my desk.

Fast forward--got my Chumby and sent an e-mail to their New Media director. Much to my delight they're already working on an mp3 based stream.  It comes with the disclaimer that they're still testing it and it may be intermittent until it's "officially" released to the public. But I've listened to it nonstop without interruption, save for my Internet cutting out. Which is par.

It's morning/comedy talk format (Think Bob & Sheri) -- all day long.  Entertaining, not enriching.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

I think the concept of submitting stations to radio free chumby is an exercise in futility; and should not be necessary.
Instead, a widget should be created that allows users to select music by genre, and then see radio stations available.
Adding them helter-skelter to chumby will take a lot of time and never be complete or up to date.

PS- listing radio stations without listing their genre, and state is a frustrating experience. i like Jazz and classical- and don't want to have to memorize call letters or go with trial and error.

Listing the state is important if you listen to news or other time related radio (I LOVE NPR, but a California NPR station does not play morning edition when MY morning begins)!

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

Listening to Old Time Radio show streams would make the Chumby perfect!

One example is:  http://www.live365.com/stations/otrnow

I would love to be able to hear this, and other free story feeds, on the Chumby.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

It would be nice if there were one or two classic Country music stations on the chumby as that seems a poorly supported genre.

Search for "country" in the SHOUTcast screen - you should get a pretty good selection.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

I second the Old Time Radio request, as well as BBC 4.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

Search for Old Time Radio on shoutcast, there are actually several OTR stations available there.

Re: Suggest stations for Radio Free Chumby

Duane,
Leo Laporte now has his Twit podcast network broadcasting 24 hours a day on an icecast server.  This would be a great addition.
The URL is twit.am/listen.m3u
